Jon Gruden will be replacing Tony Kornheiser in the Monday Night Football booth.

It really doesn't matter what the circumstances are for the change,  although Kornheiser sited his fear of flying. The fact is that his reign of annoyance to all MNF lovers is over.  In my opinion, I think he stated fear of flying as a safe means of exit without the need for too much damage control on his career.

Personally, I thought Kornheiser was the absolute worst commentator I've ever seen in the Monday Night Football booth, even more so than Dennis Miller. Why worse than Miller?  Because Dennis Millers job was to provide 'comic' relief in the booth as opposed to Kornheiser's job was football reporting and instead chose to talk about stupid things like the color of a receivers shoes during critical replays.  Half the time it felt like Jaws wanted to just knock him out...and rightfully so.

On a positive note, I think Gruden will do an outstanding job in the booth along with Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski.  Although both know football inside and out, Jaws will be the offensive expert with Gruden the expert on defense.  Meanwhile, Mike Tirico will keep it all running smooth like the professional he is.

I'm very pleased with this move, actually relieved.  MNF lovers have been waiting to scratch this itch for a while.

Feel free to sound off!

MNF: Down goes Kornheiser!

Having a competent announcer during a professional sport play is usually a no-brainer.  I've heard Bob Brenly before and there are lots of others that provide a valuable service to both the audience and the game.

It's frustrating to see local market games like LA, CHI, NY, etc all have announcers in sports that are A+ caliber professionals...and then you have a national broadcast game which airs weekly and execs for MNF hire a third GOON to be in the booth the past few years.   What planet are these people from?

It took MNF like ten years to finally decide that adding an additional head in the booth with knowledge about the game is better than adding a comedian or some guy who's other show was to shout out about what he thinks about a subject for 10 seconds then move on.

Unfortunately, it probably won't last.  Gruden is on the list of a few other coaches that will probably be back in the NFL in the near future.
